2). I'm going to get the Koss Porta Pro with Yaxi pads. I've heard things about the differences of dollar store headphone and how the more expensive ones are like night and days, and I think I'm ready to spare some money for a budget entry-level headphone to blow me away once again.
11. My brother just got a pair of KTXPro-1s. They use the same driver as the Porta Pro so I just did a quick comparison and here's the results: The PortaPro is more comfortable but asthetics are a tossup. The PortaPro is more nasally in the mids and a less boomy bass, but the KTXPro-1 is less refined in the high end and has some sort of
Yes it is worth it. The frequency response difference was also compared in a recent post here the other day. The Yaxi pads bring up the treble, and help to balance out the bass. On stock pads the Porta Pros are too muddy and muffled to me, but on Yaxi they sound so much more open and closer to KSC75's. wmplus.
(2) Bit more expensive but much easier MMCX mod: There's a person on eBay from the UK (tekki-uk) that sells custom designed 3D printed mod kits for a few different Koss models, including the Porta Pro. You can either get just the plastic bits that you use to replace the covers or get them with pre-soldered MMCX connectors.

The Sennheiser HD280 Pro is detailed to a certain extent, and kinda mid focused. Honestly I think the 20 dollar Salnotes Zero beats it out for details. Only plus is that it's less treble focused and therefore more enjoyable for longer listens. Comfy too. The Koss Porta Pros were my daily drivers for a while.

In 1984 The Koss Porta Pro's were simply designed to be an upgraded portable open ear phone that replaced the relatively poor sounding earphones that came included with one's Walkman, or Walkman clone. Yet in doing so, Koss created a legend. Not only were Porta Pro's ridiculously comfortable, but they sounded great as well.
Minimal low-frequency extension. I (and many others) have gone on at length about the superb 60ohm, 35mm driver found in the Porta Pro, Sporta Pro, KPH30i, and the KSC35. Koss uses a titanium-coated version in the UR40, KTXPro1, and KSC75. This extraordinary driver defines this legendary series of headphones and has been in constant production
